The end of the year is a time for reflection and thought. There are many events occur this year, both good and bad. Sometimes we linger over the bad things without giving the proper light to the good in our lives. I hope that your year has gone well, and what you choose to reflect upon brings you happiness and joy. Moments are fragments of times we wish to hold onto and relive forever. May those memories be joyous ones.
Part of my reflection has been upon the site, and the social media I use. I am not satisfied with it. Social media is an unwieldy beast. Its easy to lose focus on what your purpose for having it is. I don't think that I have been using it wisely. I have given it unreasonable expectations. I am going to re-evaluate how I do things and try to make it better.
Some may have noticed that I have taken down some of my videos. They are not erased and the links still work. However, I have decided to take my YouTube Channel in another direction. Since I have the ability to podcast then it only makes sense for me to utilize the visual aspect to its fullest. I will use my channel for more instructive purposes. I have software that allows me to capture video from my laptop screen. In this way, I can give instruction and how-to's for writers and others who are interested. I will leave the podcasting for purely vocal uses where the visual aspect is not necessary. My face is not that interesting. Distracting, but not entertaining.
I have also given thought to places like Facebook, Tumblr, and other media that I am a member of. I will be using these for specific purposes in the future. My author page will still post lighthearted pictures, sometimes concerning writing, and others just humorous that I believe you will enjoy. Updates about the blog, and my writings will be posted there as well. However, this shotgun-effect of just posting everything everywhere has to stop.
Certain information will be posted on the social media that best display it. That might mean that I use certain accounts less. We will see. From now on I hope to put more structure into these accounts, and have them benefit you the best way possible. Structure will benefit the both of us. As I learn how to better serve my audience the better the content will be, and you will know what to expect.
While I have been working to put more material on to the blog I have to remind myself the core reason for me establishing all of this in the first place: in service of my audience. If it isn't doing that then it needs to change. My goal has been to post at least once a week. I would like that to be more, but given my schedule, that makes it rough. My primary mission is to get this book published. This blog, the social media accounts, all of it doesn't serve any purpose unless I publish my book.
I have allowed myself to become distracted with posting. That does not mean I will stop. I never give up. However, I do understand where my priorities lie. Once I get Supplicant published then I can spend more time adding to the content on the site. I want the content to be amazing. I want the book to blow you away. To accomplish that I need to give time and attention to where its needed.
I appreciate any feedback you would like to give about the site. Please feel free to leave a comment or shoot me an email. I look forward to this new year. There is much to accomplish and less time to do it in. I am excited and I hope you are too. Have a wonderful and safe New Year!
